- Step 2. Add egg whites into a bowl.
- Step 3. Mix egg whites. Add the cream of tartar and then add granulated sugar.
- Step 4. Add the food coloring and vanilla. Then mix. Step 5. Fold 1/3 of the dry ingredients.
- Step 6. Put in piping bag with medium round piping tip. (I recommend round piping tip because it comes out the best.)
- Step 7. Pipe one inch dollops on a baking sheet lined.
- Step 8. Bake at 300F for 12-15 minutes. Rotate tray after 7 minutes.
Directions for the buttercream
- Step 1. Combine sugar and water in medium saucepan. Stir until sugar dissolves. Increase heat to medium.
- Step 2. Put egg yolks in a stand-mixer fitted with a whisk and beat until thick.
- Step 3. Cook the sugar and water syrup until it reaches 240 degrees F. Remove from heat. With mixer running, put syrup into bowl with yolks.
- Step 4. Add in butter one cube at a time allowing each piece to incorporate before adding the next. Add vanilla and salt. Continue mixing until buttercream is smooth and creamy.
This is a very difficult and specific treat to make. But it is DELICIOUS!! The recipe might take hours. It can also make up to 6 macarons! So save it for a big party. If you want 72 macarons, just double up the ingredients. Try to have 2-3 people helping you make the macarons. Have fun!
